Introducing his fourth successful season, Melbourne-based shoemaker Phong Chi Lai has launched his Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection – 004 Detail.

Phong Chi Lai's eponymous footwear label – Phong Chi Lai Handcraft - presents itself with an organic design aesthetic. Aimed at the individual rather than the fast fashion mainstream, his work essentially celebrates the wearer's personal style regardless of age or gender. 004 Detail is inspired by Lai's love of the small things – the simplicity in detail - that can change the shoe. 

 

Phong Chi Lai Handcraft's 004 DETAIL certainly does not disappoint. True to form, Lai's autumn/winter Trans-seasonal Collection features a dark palette of black and charcoal, handstitching and blanket stitching details. Wedges are concealed. Toes feature relief details ...

004 Detail looks at the theme of nuances: those finer details we sometimes miss while taking a quick glance. On closer inspection we find that there's more going on, more than initially meets the eye. The devil, as they say, is in the details.

Thursday Friday designers Roni Brunn and Olena Sholomytska are obsessed with style as well as the ideas of luxury and iconography.

“We realised we were using shopping bags as proxy accessories. They were additional but essential to supplement our ‘real’ designer bags so we decided to take these bags to another level, to have the bag itself declare what's going on.” 

They ended up with a surreal design that references luxury at the highest end but is ultimately an anti-status, status symbol!

I'm honored to let you all know about an exciting group art show on at the moment at Somewhere Gallery!  

Besties, A Fundraiser For Our Friends At The Lost Dogs Home is a group exhibition featuring the works of 22 artists, depicting the special relationships they have with their kitties and poochies!  All artwork is available for purchase and you'll feel pretty chuffed knowing that 100% OF ALL PROCEEDS go to The Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne, helping them care for the thousands of lost, abandoned and injured dogs and cats in their care.

We hope that through this event we can raise awareness for the wonderful work The Lost Dogs Home does caring for animals in need and in doing so encourage more people to consider adopting a shelter pet.    --- Somewhere
