Migh-T by Kumiko Watari Space Treats

Raised in Osaka, Japan, Kumiko Watari studied traditional Japanese methods in 2D and 3D forms at Kyoto City University of Arts, earning her BA and MA levels.

In 2005, Kumiko relocated to London to study at Central Saint Martin’s College MA Fashion course.  Her traditional technical background and artistic perspective gave Kumiko an individual style, which she developed to produce unique hand drawn prints with a love of storytelling - creating clothes with a strong character and humorous narrative that very much sums her up as the individual she is.

The new A/W 10 collection entitled “Space Sweets” features giant sweet objects orbiting space on classic shapes and beautifully tailored new pattern T-shirts and cotton blend dress and skirt styles.

Additionally, Kumi presents an adorably delicious knitted accessories range including doughnut capes, shooting star/whip cream pure silk scarves and knitted cupcake berets, good enough to eat.

The prints showing doughnut meteors and whipped cream comets represent the massive freedom of childhood playfulness.  The designs use different scales to show that there is no limit to your imagination.  From doughnuts soaring through the Milky Way, to constellations showing faces in the sky, anything is possible.
This lovely little designer is quickly becoming well known and celebrated for her distinctly unique aesthetic. Her well refined perfectionism and consistency with all she presents is marking her a fine reputation amongst fans and followers worldwide.

This collection will be available from next month (August) at selected international stockists internationally,:

Labour of Love (London, UK),
No-One (London, UK),
Nanamica (Tokyo, Japan),
Le charme de fifi et fafa (Tokyo, Japan),

Neurotica Collaborates with Artist to Present ”Thief in the night”

Well known for its signature hand illustrated intricate + dream-like story-telling prints, NEUROTICA has collaborated with textile artist, Gemma Marissa, to produce their Autumn/Winter 2010/11 Collection - THIEF IN THE NIGHT.

The collection is heavily inspired by one of the first creators of pure abstraction in modern painting, Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky, whose forms of fluid and organic to geometric and, finally, to pictographic are evident in the collections clever prints: owls, ravens, abstract crystalline, squirrels, ornate wings and the vast galaxy.

Gemma Marissa launched her eponymous label in the summer of 2008, producing handmade knitted/crochet fashion accessories and one-off costume pieces for a variety of art, theatre, and fashion projects.  The collection sees her producing a selection of hand crocheted pom pom necklaces, pom pom Alice bands and a series of caterpillar head, wrist and neckpieces.

Complimenting the Neurotica A/W collections theme of sinister but sweet, both the accessories and clothing are seamlessly paired presenting read to wear fashion for the savvy and directional
buyer. Thief In The Night gathers Neurotica's strongest and most celebrated prints, shapes and themes, exploring the abstract darkness of other worlds: magical, moody and mystical.

Eleventh Commandment Goes To Space With Their SS20/11 Collection

The Sydney lads behind denim and apparel label Eleventh Commandment - Henry Holland and Joshua Oldfield - have been busy.

Very busy.

Very, VERY busy!

Their mega 120 piece SS10/11 collection - Made in Space - will hit stores in 2 drops:  1st of September, + 1st December, + keeping with EC tradition, is still 100% Made in Australia.

"We wanted to produce this range on Venus, but the cost of freight was prohibitive."

"The Made in Space collection is a huge step forward in both size and detail, featuring men's and women's jeans, tees, dresses, shorts, bodysuits, boardies, chinos and singlets.  It experiments with premium fabrics including combed-cotton jersey, viscose, modal, drill and nylon to produce a fluent and innovative collection."

The Death of Fashion… Almost beautiful - Humility Couture SS10

Humility Couture's designer, Jimmy L'Almont, certainly caused a massive stir back in May with his SS10 collection show - The Death of Fashion… Almost beautiful - at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week when he sent the grim reaper down the stage with head stones saying `RIP Alexander Mcqueen' and `Ksubi is dead'.

"After our controversial debut at RAFW, we received great feedback on our collection and will double our national stockists base and be expanding into London, Singapore, Hong Kong and MilanWe are also working on our online store which will be up and running by the time summer drops."

The Death of Fashion… Almost beautiful is influenced by overseas visits to the Karen people of Burma, who motivate and inspire's the designer:

"Their fight for peace and freedom are the reason we do what we do."

"We kept the collection dark but played with denim dyes and prints and included a androgynous silk peg pant which we found a lot of men have been receptive towards as a casual alternative to the skinny or slim denim."

"Aesthetically, we wanted to keep the collection simple, whilst at the same time retain the use of luxury fabrics. We accentuated and played with male silhouettes and strengthened the female reflection."

Great collection, get it now!
